Green & White Scrimmage 2006
Well school is nearly done and spring football ends with a good look at what the up coming season has to offer. You can only see so far with the boys playing against themselves, but I think I like the offensive changes. I have to agree with the coaches that this style of play fits the teams attitude about football--LINE UP AND TAKE IT TO SOMEBODY!
The kids looked like they had some fun and with the numbers this year I really think the Green Wave will be very competitive and put some points on the board--something I know the coaches want to do and the talent is there to do it. And the other thing going for the Wave is that for the first time in a long time Ponchatoula will have some depth--like three and in some cases four deep at most all the positions.
As for the defense--well there are a lot of shoes to fill, but I believe dear old Ponchy has the right stuff in the stables to fill them old shoes just fine.
The boys in the trenches--the line--is as stout as it has been in years past and we have as much speed all around as the Green Wave has had before.
Yes there will be kids starting in some positions that are unproven at a particular spot, but for the last three years the Jr High kids and the Freshman kids have made this a better team. Most of the negative mentality has been erased and for the next two-three or more years this football team will be a very competative group. And I would go as far as to say that this year Ponchy may just surprise some folks and make a run at district. BELIEVE IT!
Green Wave Football Boosters Club
**Next meeting is June 27, 2006 at the Kiwanis Log Cabin at Kiwanis Park at 7 p.m. (I'll get the address for you)**
The Ponchatoula Football Boosters Club is a vital life line for the Green Wave Football Team. Without the club in place the team wouldn't have new benches for the kids to sit on or the new water dispensers which were both wish list items the coaches had for the boys--your boys--our boys. And this year the club is giving all the moneys made at the Strawberry Festival towards new uniforms for the entire team--which I understand that has already been purchased.
I heard so many people make coments about the things our team ought to have--and I agree with most of them, but if all people do is fuss then nothing is getting done.
The Booster Club is there to fill the void on things the school doesn't have the funds for and our kids deserve to have better stuff at practice and for the sidelines during the games.
I believe that to make this a better team we as parents need to be involved--not with your money, but with your time and your ideas.
You know you don't have to be a parent of one of the boys--you could be a grandparent, uncle, aunt, an alumni or just a Green Wave Football Fan.
Just remember--everything the Booster Club does benefits each and every kid dressed out in the green and white. AND the what we do also will benefit future teams.
